Swami Mounamurti Saraswati

 Profile

Mounamurti (Dave) was introduced to Yoga in 1968 at the age of eleven when his mother began attending weekly classes with her friends. Dave was the eldest of four kids who all took a brief but keen interest in their mothers yoga practices. Interestingly enough during the time their mother was practicing Yoga there was a television show on TV that Dave & his siblings watched during 1968-69 called, “Relaxing with Roma”. Later it was well known that the TV show host was Roma Blair (Swami Nirmalananda Saraswati) a disciple of Swami Satyananda.

Dave’s interest in Yoga was later resurrected during his late teens and early twenties through his love of surfing. During these years his best friends younger brother Cheyne Horan was then conquering the world of professional surfing, and it was whilst visiting his friends one weekend in Bondi, that Dave’s memories of Yoga were again awakened, after browsing through Cheyne’s book on stretching, which used mainly yoga asanas.

Another  major Yoga influence for Dave came in 1981 when another one of his best friends returned from a holiday to Sri Lanka and India. With his close friend he then began exploring the Hatha Yoga Asanas and began studying the Classical Hatha Yoga Text,   Hatha Yoga Pradipika. In 1984, after three years of dedicated Hatha Yoga training dave then began a dedication to Traditional (Classical) Indian Yoga, after meeting a Sannyasin (Swami) Disciple of Swami Satyananda Saraswati. He started investing many hours daily, learning and trying to experience the depth of Satyananda Yoga.

Dave commenced teaching the Satyananda Yoga ~ Bihar Yoga systems in 1986, and has a deep respect for its founder Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswati and has been heavily influenced by his teachings.  -

The Satyam Yoga Centre Website was launched into cyberspace by Mounamurti in 1998 as a tool to express the creative energy that Yoga has channelled for him, and as a Yoga resource for the Satyam Yoga Centre’s yoga students. The Satyam Yoga Centre website soon grew with a lot of international interest and patronage, especially coming from India.

Mounamurti is dedicated to helping preserve the ancient “Tantric Kriya Yogasadhana and which has been propagated by Swami Satyananda Saraswati since 1963, and personal yoga re-search projects.

His love of Yoga has taken him to India and Nepal for deeper training on a number of occasions, and he has met and been inspired by some rare Yogic personalities. These sojourns have deepened his commitment to experiencing spiritual evolution, as defined by the Yogic masters since ancient times as the true meaning of life.
